What instantly comes to mind is we revert the combat system to the old Zelda formula where you hold different directional inputs to change the slash type, and then change all directional requirements to horizonal, vertical, and stabbing (eliminate the diagonal slashes altogether). on PSVR in a lot of games you have to regularly recalibrate your height which games make easy as just holding a button for a sec. Additionally Skyward Sword's big selling point was the use of Motion + and I dont think the joycons are anywhere near that responsive in terms of motion control.

Gyro aiming like other Zelda remakes on 3DS is a no brainer. As some other posters have said, I suppose they could use the second analogue stick to control the sword's angle of attack (see: Metal Gear Solid 2), or even use the touch screen.

Seriously, that's a stupid reason to not play a … While those could work in theory when used in combination with some tweaks to the enemy design, they still seem like awkward and unlikely solutions. I think i'm missing something--why can't the joycons function in the same way that the wiimotes did in the original Skyward Sword? Everything else has been playable on handheld mode. I really think the best thing that you can reasonably hope for is the option to use the analogue stick for flight controls and some of the other, more superficial uses of the gyroscope. Right stick stays on camera controls when you're not locked on though. Instead of a side scrolling RPG, maybe remake it as an action RPG instead.
